Preparations for the 2019 annual national ICT teachers capacity development workshop (CDW) are complete! The annual workshop, which has been organized by the ICT Teachers Association of Uganda (ITAU) in Conjunction with Kololo Senior Secondary School, starts tomorrow Monday 6th May, 2019 at 8am to Tuesday 7th May 2019 at 5pm.
ICT is a highly evolving subject and through such workshops, ICT Teachers get a chance to share new knowledge and continuously improve their skills and capacity for teaching ICT and managing ICTs in schools. The program for this year’s workshop is outlined below.

The CDW Facilitators
As an association, we believe in sharing knowledge to improve each other’s capacity. Every year, we identify members in our community to facilitate session of interest that year. Below are some of the facilitators for this year:
Stephen Dumba
Stephen Dumba started out as a teacher at East Secondary
School in Jinja where he barely finished a year. After a few stints in
other schools in Jinja, he joined one of Jinja’s finest internet cafes
as a surf assistant.
He
later started his own secretarial bureau in Nabbingo where his IT skills
in caught the attention of schools around. He is a self-taught computer
repair technician which skill earned him a job at St. Peter’s SSS
Nsambya in 2010 as a Computer Lab attendant. His background as a teacher
earned him a teaching slot in the same school where he diligently
served for 6 years.
He
left St. Peter’s to concentrate on his businesses; E-zone Internet Café,
E-zone School of Computing and now Geek Village. Stephen has offered IT
support to schools including but not limited to St. Mary’s High School,
Bunamwaya, Makerere College, Trinity College Nabbingo, St. Aloysious Ss
Nabbingo, Lowell Girls, Kitende SS, Nakalama SS e.t.c.
Stephen
Dumba will be handling Computer Lab management at this year’s cdw2019
where he will share his experiences, insights and tips that he has
gathered over the years.
Kichui Shadrack Enock
Mr. Kichui Shadrack Enock holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science – Makerere University. He is an ICT instructor with over 15 years of experience. He has taught several schools, including former Progressive SS. Bweyogerere, Seeta HIGH school Main, Seeta HIGH school Mukono, S. t. Janan SS Bombo, St. Balikuddembe Kisoga, etc. His record making good results is immense! Mr. Kichui has also been invited as a resourceful ICT instructor in various schools in Uganda.
He is the author of Direct to Points in Computer books, the books that have been appreciated countrywide in all secondary schools, colleges, and other high institutions, including universities. Given the gap to be covered, he is now researching to write simplified books in most programming languages which will set a pace to all ICT trainees around our continent.
In this CDW, Mr. Kichui will introduce programming in C, the recommended language by UNEB, covering:
☑Print a line in C
☑To make a simple program to calculate give a formula such as area of a circle, area of a square, etc.
☑How to teach programming to students.
☑Boundaries of elementary programming.
David Matovu
David Matovu K. Is a seasoned registered teacher of ICT and Computer Studies. He is mainly in tertiary Education with a touch of secondary studies at Mpoma Girls School. Has got vast experience in Assessment and has participated in lots of Curriculum reviews and development in ICT and Computer Studies. In this CDW, David is to handle: a session on Improving Grades in Theory Papers – P840/1 and S850/1″
Kalema Ayub Golooba
Mr. Kalema Ayub Golooba is a vastly experienced trainer engaged as lead ICT trainer for educators (Teachers, Headteachers and Tutors), in several workshops, including ICT Retooling workshops. He is also an inspirational speaker, regularly engaged by a number of schools, universities and Non Government Organizations (NGOs) to highlight and demonstrate the potentials and application of ICT in Education. Mr. Ayub has a lot of experiences and lessons to share especially from the several international workshops, trainings and conferences he has attended over the past year. Notable among them is ILEP 2018 and the ICT in Education Workshop in Cambodia. Mr. Ayub has been a lead trainer of National ICT Retooling workshops over the years and during this years CDW, he will facilitate a session on elementary programming: Algorithm Design (using Pseudo Code and Flow Charts).
Mukalele Rogers
Mr. Mukalele Rogers is a multi-skilled and proactive Information Technologies Specialist that has established a track record of competence in providing services concerning Computer Training, Web development, Programming, System Administration, Database Management, Networking and ICTs in general. He has taught Computer Studies and ICT since 2009 in a many schools across the country, and authored 5 academic books for these subjects. He is the Web host manager at CENTER4WEBPRESENCE.COM and the founder of Sharebility Uganda Initiative. During this CDW, Mr. Mukalele will be leading a practical session about the use of Expression Web software for Web Design at UCE.
Patience Nekesa
Ms Patience Nekesa, is a graduate from Makerere University holding a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. Her teaching subjects are Computer Studies (ICT) and Physical Education. Nekesa is the Director of Media Minute Uganda, Founder of Design for Women Foundation Africa and the host of Website Camp Kampala, a charity event where NGOs are teamed up with professional website developers to give them an online presence kick start. She has over 10 years of experience in Computer Programming, Information Systems Development and Implementation.Web and Mobile Applications Development Experience with LMS and CMS, Php, HTML5, XML, MySQL, JavaScript, CSS, Bootstrap, Joomla, WordPress, and SQL.
During this CDW, Nekesa will co-facilitate the Web Design session together with Mr. Mukalele Rogers and Mr. Wambedde James
Mwonda David
Mr. Mwonda David, a veteran teacher of Computer Studies will facilitate the session on assessment. Mr. Mwonda is greatly experienced in this area, and is one of the pioneer teachers of the O Level Computer Studies way back in the early 2000s. He is currently teaching at Kings College Buddo. He will put emphasis on why teachers should always set standard, syllabus–aligned examination questions. Syllabus books and Sample Past Papers will be needed to aid this highly interactive session, and Mr. Mwonda is requesting the members to come along with their sample regional MOCK past exams, copies of which will be printed. and shared with the members during the discussions.
Ronald Eneku
Ronald began the IT journey as technician for both software and hardware with Second life Uganda, Ujaja, pc World, and a help desk technician to public service registry office then tought Computer in an NGO called Health Child Uganda. The journey of teaching started out as a S. 1- S. 2 teacher which later graduated to Head of ICT Department and training all other classes because oy good work and result oriented at Uphill College Mbuya in Nakawa where I have tought for now 9 years. After I joined Our lady of Africa Namilyago as a support assistant and lab technician for one year. He then joined Progressive Secondary School Kitintale.Later started his own businesses both within Kampala and Soroti in where I deal. In events management with his IT skills also ventured in Printing and Designing. He is a self-styled taught computer repair technician which skill earned him a jobs in both teaching and repairing. His background as a teacher earned him another job at St Julian High school Seeta campus as the
Lukyamuzi Ronald
Lukyamuzi Ronald is the current National Vice Chairperson of ITAU. He holds a first class Bachelors of Laws from Islamic University In Uganda Kampala Campus. He has been teaching ICT and Computer Studies for the past five years. He is currently attached to Nakanyonyi Secondary School-Mukono, Lincon High School-Kabembe Mukono and Sam Iga Memorial College-Maganjo. He has proven record and experience in the field of ICT and Computer Studies. He is the founder and owner of Lone Soft Enterprises Ltd. He will be leading a session on Database Management Systems (DBMS). The session is going to be practical and will be conducted in the Computer Laboratory alongside Mr. Musanje David. The focus will be basically on Tables, Queries, Calculated queries, Forms, Calculations in forms, Reports, Wildcards, Field Properties, Relationships and Importing a database table using Ms Excel a case study of 2018 UACE S850/2 number on databases.
Wamusi Ivan
Mr. Wamusi Ivan holds a bachelors degree in information technology from Kampala international university. He is the computer lab technician at Kololo Senior Secondary School as well as a teacher. He has a teaching experience of four years and this year he will be making 5th year in in field of teaching. During the CDW, Mr. Ivan will be co-facilitating practical sessions in the computer lab and will a key contact person to offer support whenever need arises as a teacher at the host school.
Wambedde James
Mr. Wambedde James is the Head of the ICT Department at Kololo SS, the host school. He has taught for very many years and is also passionate about photography, which he does as private work. During the CDW, Mr. Wambedde will co-facilitate the Website Design Session together with Mr. Mukalele Rogers and Nekesa Patience.
Musanje David
Musanje David holds a bachelors degree in Information Technology from Makerere
University and is currently pursuing a Postgraduate diploma in education from Kyambogo.
He is currently teaching ICT and computer studies at Kololo SS – the host school, and vision for Africa high school, International. He has also taught in other schools like , Lubiri, SS (Mengo) and Kanjuki sss. During the CDW, he will be co-facilitating a session on databases in conjunction with Mr. Lukyamuzi Ronald.
Moses Wamanga
Moses is an experienced educator with a strong background in the use of technology and capacity building to improve educational outcomes. Moses served as Head of ICT department at St. Mary’s College Kisubi and Jinja SS. He also worked as Director of Digital Learning for Dream Africa Schools, a project of GEMS Cambridge Schools and Varkey Foundation.
He has designed and conducted various national and international conferences and interventions on the effective application of ICT and education technology in the classroom. As an international Education and Resource Network Master teacher, he holds wide experience in student centered, collaborative learning activities. He also has vast experience in computer programming, networking and digital academic content creation. He serves as the national Chairman of KAWA, a community-based teachers’ organization that delivers digital content and Continuous Professional development courses in partnership with the Makerere University Business School and the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports. He is a Senior Education Specialist for Opportunity International Education Quality Department in Uganda.
During the CDW, Moses will share on the importance of Student ICT clubs in schools, and about a UCC supported a ICT Clubs pilot scheme being implemented by KAWA on the same.
Chole Richard
Chole Richard is an advocate and passionate practitioner of best practices and integration of ICT in education. He is a Secondary School teacher and Master Teacher of International Education Resource Network (iEARN) where he facilitates a students’ global collaborative learning project, Envision My Ideal World. He worked for ten years as an educator with Adobe Youth Voices, an international learner driven purposeful multimedia production program for teenagers using concepts of project-based learning under local patronage of SchoolNet Uganda. He is a Microsoft Innovative Educator, emerging one of 18 best in (MIA) Microsoft Forum for Middle East and Africa in 2012. He is very much inclined to engaging students in inter-disciplinary learning through purposeful multimedia creation. He has participated and presented at several international conferences dedicated to promotion of ICT in Education and Development. He is an associate member of Kisubi Associated Writers Agency (KAWA), and will co-facilitate the ICT Clubs session together with Moses Wamanga, ans also help in the general workshop evaluation and reporting.
Tweheyo Johnbaptist Edward
Edward is an ICT Teacher at Kibanda secondary school. He is currently serving as the Chairperson of ITAU Western Region. Mr. Tweheyo has great experience in operations of Savings and Credit Societies (SACCOs) and will co-facilitate a session on the ITAU SACCO together with Mr. Waliggo Edward, a KCCA officer who has been invited to train the members of the ITAU SACCO.
Nambone Jackline
Nambone Jackline is an ICT Teacher at Emmanuel College, Kazo. She is currently serving as the national Treasurer of the ICT Teachers Association of Uganda. During the CDW, she will be incharge of the registration and finance issues.
Kakaire Charles
Mr. Kakaire is an ICT Teacher and Director of Studies at Busoga College, Mwiri. He is the current chairperson of the ICT Teachers Association of Uganda.
As an association, we have made great progress since inception last year, first by conducting elections for the pioneer executive committee (details attached), registering our association constitution with URSB and formation of the ITAU SACCO. Currently about 400 members have registered with us, in addition to over a thousand contacts in the ITAU chat groups and mailing lists.
Mr. Kakaire will give a report on progress made since last year, ongoing programs, and the way forward for the association.
Patron and Guests of Honor
Mr. Buyye Abubaker – Patron
During thier previous executive meeting, the ITAU executives set out to identify a patron. Several suggestions were brought forward, but finally we chose to contact Mr. Buyye Abubaker, the ICT Desk Officer / Senior Education Officer at Ministry of Education and Sports.
Mr. Buyye coordinates all ICT issues at the ministry of education, and has been involved in many programs regarding retooling of ICT Teachers in the past.
Mr. Nyombi Thembo – Guest of Honor
We have extended our invitaton to Mr. Nyombi Thembo, the Director RCDF, to be the guest of honor during the closing ceremony on Tuesday.
Uganda Communications Commission through the RCDF department, has been done alot to support for the various ICT Teachers retooling workshop in the past years in addition to the various ICT support programs going on in schools across the country.
